At 234, would you say a nation reaches the age of discontent? Does that seem about right? And if so, what comes next?
I thought about this nation’s prospects as I read “The Sand-Castle,” a poem by Susan Stewart, which contains these lines:
Unwilling or unable to be
of his creation, the boy swiftly
returned it to its elements,
