Diane Parkinson of The Wild Rose Press, Sandra Dugas of Asylett Press, Lisa Hagan of the Paraview Literary Agency, and I will serve as panelists for a slush fest at the Fourth Annual Hanover Book Festival in Mechanicsville, Virginia, on Saturday, August 1, 2009. The first 25 writers who register to attend our slush fest workshops will be invited to submit query letters or synopses and the first pages of their manuscripts reproduced on overhead transparencies. As many anonymous selections as possible will be shared with the panelists and workshop participants, and each of the panelists will give feedback. If a writer’s query or manuscript pages seem promising, I’ll ask to see more of the manuscript and meet with the writer after the session.
The Hanover Book Festival, sponsored by the Hanover Writers Club, a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, will host five other writing workshops on Saturday. Topics include bookselling, teenage writers, career building for writers, screenwriting, and ebook publishing. And, of course, the main attraction will be dozens of Virginia authors selling their books and promoting forthcoming releases. The festival is free, which should ensure a big turnout. Join us for a few hours if you’re in the Richmond area. I’m looking forward to the company of other booklovers.
