Facebook is now displaying L.L. Bean sale ads on my profile page. Does that algorithm know me or what? (laughing)
At BEA (BookExpo America) in Los Angeles last month, Shelfari’s vice president of marketing, Dave Hanley, told those of us attending a panel discussion on “Scaling the New Economies” that Shelfari gets 100 inquiries a day from users who want to know how they can read the books whose covers are displayed on the social cataloging site, which currently has 1.5 million members. Hanley said Shelfari envisions being able to provide the ebook versions of the titles once the market scales.
L.L. Bean’s marketing liaison must hope my friends will glance at my Facebook profile and suddenly be inspired to stock up on bargain microfleece, kayaks, and backpacks.
